I think I may have blogged a little bit a few weeks ago about my dislike for the windy winter we've been having here in Boulder this year, but this blog will be devoted ENTIRELY to expressing the profound feeling of hatred that I feel towards wind now. As I lay awake in bed last night unable to sleep because of the wind howling across my window and over my roof, I could think about nothing else besides my hatred and anger towards the wind outside. I was fuming. I was livid. I couldn't believe how mad I was at something seemingly as innocent as wind.
Yes, wind is absolutely my least favorite (most hated) of Mother Nature's weather types. A windy day/night here or there isn't so bad though. The first really windy day we had here in the fall, I was actually kind of awe-struck. I was impressed by the wind and how strong it was. I enjoyed walking through it and seeing it blow all the brown leaves off of the trees. I thought it was funny that they had to close the west entrance to the library because it was too windy. Yes, I kind of enjoyed the first windy day.
Then about two weeks later came another big windy day. Then about a week and a half later, another one. I thought these windy days were still a bit of a novelty and I didn't hate them so much. I thought it interesting that we had experienced so many windy days in such a short period of time, and I hoped and expected that we would experience no more.
I was wrong. I would guess that in the past 4 months or so, we have had windy days on average 2 days per week or week and a half. Where is all this wind coming from? Why is it so windy this year, but I don't remember it ever being even remotely this windy in years past? I bet our good ol' pall Global Warming is at least partially to blame.
I am getting so sick and tired of the regularity with which we have been having windy days that I have even begun to cherish the calm days in between, knowing that they won't last and that more wind is likely only a few days away. Anyway, it's time for me to go to school now, I just wanted to complain about this loathsome wind for a bit.

Oh man, so I had this vivid dream that because of the wind 3 trees fell on our house, crushed my car and David! I woke up this morning thinking, "god, I bet our yard is such a mess because of those trees that fell last night." Luckily, it was just a dream and I didn't have to scrape David off the sidewalk this morning.
That would've been pretty horrible. Maybe you just shouldn't sleep anymore and then you won't have dreams like that.
I would love to blame the wind on global warming, especially if it would blow a few Bushes away, but I will put on my "Back when I was a kid" hat and comment that it seems like we had wind like this all the time when I was in grade school. I remember seeing a shingle driven into a telephine pole, and roofs blew off all the time. It's la nina!
Dang it! Well there goes my not-at-all-researched theory blowing right out the window. I can still hate it just the same though even if it's just a little niƱa though, can't I?
Hate away!! There were many nights when I lived at Bo's house that I had to sleep on the couch because I was sure the roof of my room was going to blow off and I would end up in Kansas. They used to have these little guys being blown over to symbolize windy days in the Daily Camera weather forecast. We would curse the windy guys!
I also am relieved to hear that the wind has returned to Boulder (especially since I don't have to deal with it), because I was starting to worry why it seemed to have stopped for so long. I can remember from growing up the horrible moaning sound that the door to the garage used to make when the wind would gust above 50 miles an hour or so, and having to sit huddled with my friends behind a concrete wall on the playground at our elementary school while we waited for them to let us inside.
Yeah, There is nothing like being on a gravel playground (especially wearing a skirt) when the wind is blowing 60 mph and everything is being sandblasted.
Yeah, sounds really fun. I'm glad they don't make us big kids have recess... in skirts.
I bet the whole time the teachers were in their nice little protected classrooms looking out at the suffering kids and laughing too.
I could add to the "when I was little..." but I was little with KO and Dwight and they ain't lying...
What I would add is that I think it has to do with all the beautiful snow we have been getting up here... snowstorm here, wind down there...
there you have it.
All I know is that it seems like about 4 out of 5 times this winter that I have traveled somewhere else I've ended up getting stranded and having to stay in some unplanned city overnight, miss my meeting, then play the game again to try to get back home.
Meantime people keep asking me about the severe winter weather in Colorado.
I think I should just stay home more often and avoid the weather everywhere else this winter.
